How ‘Techpreneurs’ are shaping the future of Nigeria

The growth of mobile technology and the internet has transformed Nigeria, birthing numerous innovators and entrepreneurs who use technology to build Nigeria’s future

Nigeria, known to be Africas most populated country, has the most tech hubs in the continent – up to 90 in total. According to CNN World,  in 2019, start-ups in Nigeria raised approximately $400 million more than the previous year. Technological innovation and the budding mobile industry have catapulted the country to new heights as savvy tech entrepreneurs or ‘techpreneurs’ transform the future of Nigeria.

Notably, the country has become the birthplace for several of the continent’s most transcending start-ups, for instance, the online market Jumia. This has generated growth for creative or ‘techpreneurs’ with innovations that help improve the lives of people within the country and beyond.

Start-ups such as Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB) and fintech company PiggyVest have catapulted the adoption of technology in Nigeria.

Launched in 2010, CcHUB is an innovation center created for Africans to develop life-changing tech. Tijani has supported tech startups by providing vital resources needed to grow their businesses sustainably.

Bosun Tijani, Co-Creation Hub (CcHUB) founder and CEO, said to CNN:

Bosun TijaniScience Technology can leapfrog development across Africa… there are so many smart people on the continent, we need to build a platform that will enable them to create.

PiggyVest provides a host of financial services and investment options all from your smartphone. The fintech company aims to teach young Nigerians the value of money by helping them put money aside in bid to motivate saving.

Odunayo Eweniyi, co-founder of PiggyVest, told CNN:Odunayo-Eweniyi-1-scaled

We’re targeting people that have smartphones and already have bank accounts. The ideal user of our platform would be young adults, mid-level professionals, not earning too much, not too little,

According to Eweniyi, PiggyVest has reached more than two million registered users.
