New Jersey regulator clears Evolution of misconduct allegations

Evolution, a leading provider of live casino games, has been officially cleared of any misconduct by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE). The allegations, which surfaced in November 2021, claimed that Evolution’s live casino games were accessible in black market jurisdictions such as Iran, Syria, and Sudan.

The report, submitted by an unidentified firm, led to a thorough investigation by the NJDGE. Evolution, however, refuted the allegations from the outset, stating that the claims were an attempt by an anonymous third party to discredit its business. The company emphasized its rigorous protocols to verify geographic locations and its role as a B2B provider, responsible for supplying services to operators who manage player interactions and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Despite Evolution’s denial, the NJDGE proceeded with an enquiry to ascertain the veracity of the allegations. After a comprehensive investigation, the NJDGE found no evidence to substantiate claims that Evolution had sanctioned, promoted, or benefited from content offered by operators in jurisdictions deemed prohibited by New Jersey regulations.

Robust compliance is future of gaming industry

In addition to cooperating with the NJDGE investigation, Evolution conducted its own internal review, affirming the adequacy of its due diligence and compliance procedures. The company also took proactive steps to enhance its processes, a move supported by the NJDGE, although these enhancements were not related to any jurisdictional violations.

The NJDGE’s investigation into this matter has now been closed without requiring further action. This decision comes as a relief to Evolution, whose share price had plummeted by over 16 percent in the week following the allegations.

The allegations and subsequent investigation highlight the stringent regulatory environment within the gaming industry and the importance of due diligence and compliance. Evolution’s clearance by the NJDGE not only vindicates the company but also reinforces its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fairness in its operations.

The case serves as a reminder to all operators in the gaming industry of the importance of maintaining robust compliance procedures and the potential repercussions of failing to do so. As the industry continues to evolve and expand into new markets, companies like Evolution will undoubtedly continue to play a crucial role in shaping its future.
